Community Health Programs

OUR BODIES GOSSIP

OCHC is beginning a new program called "Our Body's Gossip." This program is designed to create a positive atmosphere for women of color to come together to discuss preconception health issues and to encourage women to make a preconception health plan. An OCHC community health worker (CHW) provides preconception and interconception education for women and adolescents about healthier activities including nutrition, exercise, chemical use, smoking, and the importance of folic acid during reproductive years and pregnancy prevention.

The goal is to increase access to health care and prevention services to help reduce disparities in preterm birth. The objective is to provide preconception and interconception education and help reduce risk factors for all women of childbearing age. The culturally appropriate CHW will provide outreach, education and support to adolescents and women before, during and after pregnancy. The CHW will also serve as a liaison for clients and OCHC's medical, dental and behavioral health providers.
