PRENATAL OUTREACH AND SERVICES

According to the Minnesota Department of Health the percent of women receiving prenatal care that is inadequate or none: African American 10.3 and Asian 7.1 compared to 2.9 White.

There continues to be large disparities for women of color and White women receiving prenatal care in the state of Minnesota and in St. Paul and Ramsey County. Statewide, American Indian women continue to experience the greatest disparity. However, African Americans, Asians and Hispanics also receive inadequate or no prenatal care at higher rates than Whites.

OCHC has three CHWs who are also certified doulas who work with the clinic.s prenatal population and do tremendous outreach in the community. Some of the free programs they provide include:

  • Prenatal classes/Childbirth classes
  • Doula/birthing companion services
  • Breast feeding classes
  • Free pregnancy tests
  • Car seat classes
  • Dental screenings
  • Childcare referrals & WCC education
  • STI/HIV education
  • Rent & Housing Information
  • Food Shelf Referrals
  • Assistance in getting cribs, Pampers, clothing, medicine.
